Chasing Technology

The self hosted VM I was originally hosting this site on had an IO issue and without the time to investigate I lost the data. Fortunately, I had two posts which were in my RSS feed for me to recreate them. At the same time I had a look at some static site generators (SSGs). I started with Jekyll and quickly found a lot of the themes have not been updated in years, some more than 10 years. I looked at Hugo too and quickly realised that chasing different technologies was getting in the way of writing which is the purpose of this site. I stuck with Ghost, for now at least.

I'd love to say I will go down the SSG route but time is a limiting factor. With three kids and a busy life, Ghost may well be the platform that allows me to write consistently. 11ty looks nice, I'll likely have a play with it when I have some time.

I've moved the site to a Hetzner VPS with backups enabled to avoid any future data loss. The Hetzner plans seem to have the most CPU, RAM, storage and bandwidth for the price. I'll see how the performance goes. So far, so good.
